Example role play
One student will be a doctor, nurse or receptionist
One student will be a patient asking follow up questions and asking for clarification
Speak out loud and practice all of these questions and answers:
Doctor, Nurse or Receptionist answers:
Thanks for Calling the hospital, can I have your name and date of birth?
Example A:
The medicine may cause drowsiness
No special instructions
You take one 100mg pill in the morning and one at night
If you miss a dose you should just continue the next dose DO NOT DOUBLE YOUR DOSE
Example B:
The medicine may cause nausea
Take your medicine with food
You take 1 200 mg every morning
If you miss a dose you should just continue the next dose DO NOT DOUBLE YOUR DOSE
Example C:
The medicine may cause drowsiness and dizziness.
Don’t eat grapefruit with this medicine.
You take 1 200 mg every evening before bed.
If you miss a dose you should just continue the next dose DO NOT DOUBLE YOUR DOSE.
Now, practice this conversation several times. Change roles. Can you practice this without looking now? Can you change the questions and answers?
Student 1 will ask: Does the medicine have any side effects?
Student 2 will reply: This medicine may cause drowsiness
Student 1 will say: So you’re saying this medicine can make me sleepy?
Student 2 will say: yes that’s correct
Student 1 will ask: Are there any special instructions?
Student 2 will say: Yes, don’t eat grapefruit when you are on this medicine
Student 1 will say: So you’re saying don’t eat grapefruit on this medication
Student 2 will say: Exactly
Student 1 will ask: What can I do if I miss a dose?
Student 2 will say: If you miss a dose you should just continue the next dose DO NOT DOUBLE YOUR DOSE
Student 1 will say: You mean if I miss a dose, I do nothing and wait until the next dose
